1.0 - INTRODUCTION

Wildcat! Watcher is an analyzer written in MicroSoft's QuickBASIC.
The idea mainly grew from the lack of a quality piece of ShareWare
software which can produce both colour ANSI and mono screens showing
the data collected from the ACTIVITY.LOG.

It was written on an Amstrad PC 1640 in between running a Wildcat BBS.
Yes - that meant taking the board down for an hour or two at a time,
but it was worth it !

Watcher is distributed under the ShareWare concept. You are encouraged
to pass it on to any bulletin board or information centre you wish,
providing no modifications have been made to the documentation, .EXE
programs or the archive (be it ZIP, ARC, PAK or whatever you want!).

1.1 - ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Although this program was very much of a 'rush job', a lot of effort,
time and PATIENCE has gone into making it available to you. There are
a few people I have to thank who have tested and de-bugged and tested
and tested and so on!

Well, where do you turn when the compiler just refuses to compile your
program ? Well, I just went crazy when I found out that the stupid
compiler just re-fused to compile the program. So where did I turn ?

Well, through the kindness of his heart, Christy Gemmell replied to many
a message on my board with answers to questions, problems and most of
all my compilation problem - Thanks Christy !!!

Then there's of course my 'test sight' for the program. At this time I
run Wildcat! version 1.13, but many Wildcat! boards had changed to
Version 2.00. After thoroughly testing the program on V1.13, Adrian
Groth jumped in and tested the program on his board... without him,
the program wouldn't be working on V2.00 of Wildcat for along time to
come.

Then there's various other Sysops and users of my board who have made
suggestions for any ideas in the result, and although there are too many
to mention, loadsa ta's to ya' all - From Rich !

1.2 - REGISTRATION

Registration - Hmmm - funny thing that. What, I hear you ask, do you get
for registering ? Well, included in this archive is two DEMO displays
STATPRO!.BBS and STATPRO!.SCR which are the relevant mono and colour
screens giving you some idea of what exactly the registered users
version is capable of.

Extras included with registration are:

* Full use of double piping in the displays instead of the boring
old pluses and minus signs +-----+ Yawn!!!

* 15 screens instead of just 7 - the 8 new screens are graphs
showing message folder usage, baud rate usage, day usage and loads
more.

* FULL support of the software via the board or voice call with
answers to any problems (hoping you won't need this, but no
program is perfect!!!)

* 1 FREE upgrade of a registered Watcher via download. This means
that any enhancements or improvements which are incorporated in
the years to come, you can have 1 FREE update at any time.

* A disk with the runtime programs and modules on. This saves you
having to download it from the board of course!

To register, all you have to do is send 5 - yes ONLY 5 - to the below
address complete with the registration form found as EXTRA.IFO. All the
relevant details are on the form, so just COPY EXTRA.IFO PRN to have a
printout of it !

The address to send the fee is:

of the calandar. The latest shareware version can be found there too.

1.3 - DISCLAIMER

Although this program has been given hell in the testing periods, there
is no guarantee that it will work perfectly with your particular hard
or software configuration. Therefore, any mishaps, or system crashes
caused by the use or mis-use of the program are NOT my fault. Any such
problems I try to get rid of, but unless you let me know, the problem
will remain, so please contact me if any problems do occur.

1.4 - COPY NOTICE

Watcher is Copyright (C) 1989 by Dwarf Software.

Watcher and any programs distributed with it are not to be modified,
de-compiled or tampered with in any form. This also applies to the
ZIP/ARC/PAK etc archive in which it is held and the documentation
without WRITTEN permission of Dwarf Software prior to alterations.

This software is ShareWare and is NOT to be sold, or any fee above 3
charged for its distribution.

1.5 - BBS

I must mention the boards of those sysops who helped me make this
as bug proof as it is now. These boards and sysops are:

ADRIAN GROTH - The Norwich Onion - (0603) 423305 - 300 -> 2400
MySelf !!! - The Red Dwarf - (0604) 705744 - 300 -> 2400

2.0 - HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

The following is a system setup which is regarded as tge MINIMUM
"BaseLine" requirements for running the Watcher:

a: 256k RAM
b: Wildcat! Version 1.13 or 2.00
c: One disk drive - preferably Hard Disk
d: Monitor

2.1 - SETTING UP THE SYSTEM

The setup procedure for Wildcat! Watcher consists of 6 easy steps:

1: UnPak the archive the program arrived in into ANY directory.
2: Place a copy of BRUN40.EXE in the path environment string.
3: Run SETWATCH.EXE from the DOS command line by typing SETWATCH
and hitting ENTER.
4: Setup the ACTIVITY.LOG, the Colour and Mono output paths, the
requested pages and the maximum displays prompted for in the
setup.
5: Press ESC to finish and ENTER to save.
6: Type WATCH from the DOS command line.

Assuming that the setup of the program is correct, there should be no
problems with the running from now on. Whilst producing the displays,
the program will pause for periods of upto 30 seconds, depending on the
speed of your machine. Do not worry about this ... It has not hung, it
is just sorting the top ranks out into numerical order.

2.2 - RUNNING AS AN EVENT

Running the program as an event from Wildcat is the perfect usage. Just
add the command WATCH to the batch file which runs your reports
(assuming that the WATCHER directory is the current directory) and it
will work just as it did from the DOS command line.

3.0 - SETUP IN MORE DETAIL

Running SETWATCH is the easiest way to configure the program. Firstly
enter the path of where the ACTIVITY.LOG file resides. This will most
probably be the default (C:\WILDCAT\ACTIVITY.LOG). You may change this
if required. Then enter the OUTPUT paths for the colour and mono screens
or bulletins. To use it as a report viewed from the System Statistics
off the main menu, then STATPRO!.BBS or .SCR will be the filename used.
Now select which pages you wish to appear in the report. Enter Y or N
depending on whether you want that certain page included. Then, finally,
enter the MAXIMUM bulletins, questionnaires and live programs that are
available on the system. This is so that the top ratings can be
produced.

*** PLEASE TEST THE PROGRAM AFTER RUNNING SETWATCH TO MAKE SURE ***
*** THAT THE SETUP YOU HAVE PROVIDED ACTUALLY WORKS CORRCTLY! ***
