** What does this fix patch ? **

Without going into details, T.A.G. version 2.6c can hang under certain
conditions in the file area. This is the primary reason for an update.

Additionally, for multinode, the $WHO.DAT was located in the AFILES
directory, forcing systems to share the AFILES directory in order for
the "WHO-IS-ON" command to work properly. The $WHO.DAT file is now
kept in the Multi-Node Directory.

This patch also changes the version number to version 2.6c1.

** Time Required **

It is recommended that you set aside approximately 10 minutes for this
conversion process.

** Current T.A.G. Version **

You *MUST* be currently running T.A.G. version 2.6c to use this patch.

** Take Down The Your Board **

Absurd as it may sound to most, we have actually had cases where
SysOp's have tried to patch to a new version of T.A.G. in the
background (e.g. DesqView) while a user was currently on-line with the
old version. Please do not try anything cute with this conversion
package. Take your system down completely.

Also do NOT convert while you shelled to DOS from T.A.G. or any other
program.

Shut the board completely down before continuing!!!

** Getting Started **

Yes, this is the evil backup warning . Though we have tried to
anticipate the configuration of all possible systems, it is *EXTREMELY*
important that you back up your current version 2.6c T.A.G. system. If
something serious should go wrong with the patch you may have to reload
the old system and start again.

Please backup the following files:
- TAG.EXE & TAG.OVR

It is always good idea to make an EXTRA backup of your STATUS.DAT,
USER.LST, and MENUS.LST files!

** Installation **

Unzip the TAGP26C.ZIP file into the main BBS directory (Containing the
TAG.EXE and TAG.OVR files.

Run the file PATCH26C.BAT by typing PATCH26C in the Main BBS directory.

If the patch is successful, and you execute the cleanup portion of the
BAT file, the only files that will be left over from the patch will be
REBUILD.EXE, PATCH26C.DOC and PATCH26C.BAT. You can delete these files.

Bring the BBS back up!

Happy BBSing,

The T.A.G. Team

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
