Contents of the MACRO.DOC file
This special file explains the macros found in SM.MAC that
is supplied with Session Manager.
Users should take note that these macros are provided for
demonstration purposes. They are not intended to be the
de facto standard macros. You should note that many of these
macros used to quote from other messages will reformat the text
to fit within the margins.
Macros are called by using the Alt key in conjunction with
numbers 0 through 9. The following is a description of the
macros.
SM.MAC
------
Macro 0
This macro is presently used only as an example of a quick
signature. It might be handy here to add an
the macro
Macro 1
Quote reformat simple will place the persons initials of the
current message.
NOTE: Be sure to have Column Blocking (Ctrl-K/M) set to OFF
and Insert Mode ON.
Macro 2
This macro will import a whole message from the
window into the
divider.
NOTE: Be sure to have Column Blocking (Ctrl-K/M) set to OFF
and Insert Mode ON.
Macro 3
Quote & reformat with line draw, this macro will copy and
highlite a block of text with drawn lines. Block the desired
text from the message with F7 and F8, then, at this point
pressing the Alt-3 macro will copy the block to
underline it.
NOTE: Be sure to have Column Blocking (Ctrl-K/M) set to OFF
and Insert Mode ON.
Macro 4
Append message to [BOARD].TXT, this macro will save the header
and complete message to a file in the current SessionManager
subdirectory. The filename will be the same as the current
bulletin boards name with a .TXT extension.
This macro will open an edit window and copy the text from the
message to the end of any existing [BOARD].TXT. You should not
have another edit window open when this is called nor should
this be called when the block mode is set to column mode.
Macro 5
Simple up arrow, places an up arrow in your message.
Macro 6
Right elbow up arrow, places a couple dashes, an elbo, and an
up arrow for more emphasis than macro 5.
Macro 7
This is an empty macro for you to play with.
Macro 8
Export an entire message including header to a text file YOU
name. This is similar to the #4 macro but demonstrates how to
allow a prompt for a file name. You should not have another
edit window open when this is called nor should this be called
when the block mode is set to column mode.
Macro 9
This macro is used and needed by Macro 3 so don't edit it
unless you don't care about macro 3.
MACRO TIPS
----- ----
Each macro file contains up to ten macros. As explained in the Session
Manager documentation, you can call one macro file from another. It
has a more in-depth explanation about macros.
The macro SM.MAC is automatically loaded at the startup of SM.EXE. If
you wish to have more than one macro file, SM.MAC is a logical choice
for calling other macro files, simply record the necessary key strokes
to call up the optional macro and store it in one of the empty
locations.
You may edit and add any characters to a macro. Ctrl-J/T will start
recording a new macro. Simply go through the motions you wish saved,
and press Ctrl-J/T when finished. At that point you can select which
macro number for your macro to be. Be SURE to save the macro file,
otherwise it will only work for this session.
For high order characters, Alt-U/Ctrl-A will display the high order
character table. (Extended) You may enter the characters in a message
or in a macro by pressing Alt and typing the character's number on the
numeric keypad only. PgDn displays a second group of characters. These
characters must be preceded by a Ctrl-P and then Alt and type the
character's number on the numeric keypad. You cannot get this to work
by using the number keys at the top of the QWERTY section.
The following letters are provided for the die hard BBS type that
wishes to put together a signature. You may use TheDraw or Copycon.COM
or any other editor (including THIS one or pEditor) or an ANSI drawing
program to create your own. RIME has a ruling that signatures and
taglines are only to take up to 3 lines, this is to cut down on
unnecessary download bytes for the Sysops.
Use ANSI color in your messages only in authorized conferences, many
people do not have color (Graphics) turned on, it also slows down the
display of text and is forbidden in many echo mail systems.
