Pro Lister 1.4

If you're like me you keep file lists from various BBS's in order to
find some file that you simply must have for some godforsaken reason.

File listings from some of the larger BBS's are as large as 1 meg or
more. If you've ever browsed through huge file lists for a specific
type of file, then Pro Lister is for you.

Pro Lister will search a specified file for the lines that contain
a key word or phrase that describes the type of files for which you
are searching.

By using Pro Lister the lines that contain the text you're looking
for will be written to a new file (filename).OUT

You can then browse through the output file and every single listing
will be of a file that you might need.

I've tested this program on my 286 clone and the systems of my friends
and there have never been any problems but as with any program that writes
to a disk, please use at your own discretion.

Sorry for the disclaimer, but you do understand.

To run Pro Lister from the COMMAND line type:

PROLST14.EXE filename keyword

For instance if you want to search ALLFILES.LST for lines containing
the keyword CLIPPER you would enter:

PROLST14 ALLFILES.LST CLIPPER

To have Pro Lister look for two keywords (the order does not matter
in this search) type:

PROLST14.EXE filename keyword1 keyword2

For instance if you want to search ALLFILES.LST for lines containing
the keyword CLIPPER and 5.0 you would enter:

PROLST14 ALLFILES.LST CLIPPER 5.0

This would locate the same lines as the above command:

PROLST14 ALLFILES.LST 5.0 CLIPPER

Pro List would then create ALLFILES.OUT containing lines similar
to these below :

3PX50.ZIP 79872 10-03-89 Three P Clipper LIB v5.0
50NGCH.ZIP 10546 10-24-90 Norton Guide for Clipper 5.0 - Header files

HEIMEN.ZIP 6144 11-16-89 Larry Heimendinger on Clipper 5.0
UI_CLP50.ZIP 100460 12-17-89 UI2 - Clipper template 5.0

If you don't enter the command line variables then:

-> You will be prompted for the name of the file to process.
(The file must be in the current directory.)

Enter the Name of the File : ALLFILES.LST

-> You will be prompted for the Search String if there are no
command line variables or only one command line variable.
This Search String could be any series of words but unlike
using the command line this search will be order specific.

Enter the Search String : CLIPPER 5.0

As you can see below this produced a slightly different list than the
command line keywords. (Call it a bug or a feature depending on how
you see these things)

50NGCH.ZIP 10546 10-24-90 Norton Guide for Clipper 5.0 - Header files
BADPACK.ZIP 3249 10-21-90 Clipper 5.0 Hangs on consequtive del, Packs

CLIPPER5.ZIP 2675 06-17-89 First info on CLIPPER 5.0 from DEVCON
HEIMEN.ZIP 6144 11-16-89 Larry Heimendinger on Clipper 5.0

The lines that contain the text you're looking for will then be written
to filename.OUT in the current directory. The time required for this
process will vary according to the size of the input file and the speed
of your equipment.

When Pro Lister is done you'll hear a beep.

I hope you will find Pro Lister to be a useful tool in your BBS pursuits.
