?Vî¬ñ( #•%&Š*g.°/ò25Û. Idle Keyboard Time-Out. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄC Enter the keyboard time-out in minutes. Valid responses are 1 - 9.@ Why doesn't PCBFV use the keyboard time-out in PCBoard?G If a caller has abandoned their terminal, a time-out will occur inG PCBFV and return them to PCBoard. PCBoard's timer will then start. IfG you have a large time-out set in PCBoard, it would be a good idea toG set it lower in PCBFV, as the combined PCBFV & PCBoard time-outs will- occur before PCBoard disconnects the caller.Û0 Maximum Extracted File Size0 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG Enter the maximum uncompressed file size you wish to be extracted forG BOTH the (R)ead & (F)lag commands. If the file to be Read or FlaggedG is larger than what you specify, the caller will not be permitted toG Read the file or Flag it for separate download. You may enter 0 for noG limit, however this is not recommended if a RAM drive is used for the- `work location of extracted file' parameter.G This parameter will be ignored if PCBFV is running in any of the localG modes, or if the Sysop is on remotely. This allows the Sysop to have& full access to the File View process.Û2 Work Location of Extracted File2 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG This is a "work" location of extracted files for both the (R)ead andG (F)lag commands. Whenever a caller Reads or Flags a file, that file isG extracted to the location you specify here. If you have a lot of RAMG drive space, it is ideal for this location. On MULTI-NODE systems, youG MUST specify a different "work" directory for each node and indicateG that node's directory here. If you are MULTI-NODE and using a singleG PCBFV.CNF, place the @NODE@ macro in-line here (C:\WORK@NODE@\). PCBFVG will replace @NODE@ internally based on node information from PCBoard.G PCBFV never deletes work directories. It will insure the appropriateG work directory exists each time it is run, and creates it if not. IfG you nest your work subdirectories, PCBFV will only try to create theG "last" directory in the nest. For example, if your work location isG C:\PCB\PCBFV\WORK PCBFV will only try to create \WORK. If C:\PCB\PCBFVC doesn't exist, PCBFV will not be able to create C:\PCB\PCBFV\WORK.Û1 Path to Compression Utilities1 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG Enter ONLY the path of your compression utilities. Do NOT enter a fileG name in this parameter. This parameter allows PCBFV to go directly toG your compression utilities, rather than search a path for them. This@ results in faster overall extraction/compression response time.? PCBFV will expect to find the following compression utilities:@ PKZIP and PKUNZIP (version 2.04e) for ZIP and PKSFX .EXE files.< LHA (version 2.12) for LZH and LZH SFX .EXE and .COM files.D ARJ (version 2.30) for ARJ and ARJ SFX .EXE files (2.20+ SFX only).* PAK (version 2.10) for PAK and SDN files.0 PKPAK and PKUNPAK (version 3.61) for ARC files.Û, Swap PCBFV If Needed, ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG PCBFV can "swap" itself to EMS or disk (disk if EMS is not available)G if there is insufficient memory available to perform (R)ead or (F)lag: functions. These are general guidelines for this setting:
G If EMS is present, but you don't wish PCBFV to use it when swapping,9 enter "D" to force PCBFV to always swap to Disk instead.G (1) If you are running PCBoard in /SWAP mode, PCBFV will most likely< always have enough memory for (R)ead and (F)lag operations. G (2) If this setting is answered with (Y)es or (D)isk, PCBFV will only swap if needed.G (3) Never enable this setting if using a multitasker other than those/ listed as being supported in the PCBFV manual.Û0 Follow eXpert Mode in USERS0 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG Answering NO will force PCBFV to always display FVMNU unless it is% turned off with the PCBFV X command.G Answering YES will force PCBFV to follow the caller's mode as it was last set in the USERS file.G Important: PCBoard does not update the USERS file before a F V shell.G Therefore, it is important to understand that if you answer YES, thereG could be times when it appears PCBFV is not following this toggle. ForG instance, if a caller logs on in novice mode, then switches to expert,G then performs a F V, PCBFV will display FVMNU because the USERS fileG will still indicate the caller is in novice mode. PCBoard only updates, USERS when logging off or exiting to doors.Û0 Disable (R)ead Text Option0 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG This allows the Sysop to disable the (R)ead text command in PCBFV. ItG is difficult to imagine why anyone would want to do this, however the ability is here just in case.G If (R)ead is disabled, references to the (R) command should be removed: from the FVHLP help file and FVMNU (if the menu is used).Û2 Security Needed to (R)ead files2 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG Enter the minimum security level a caller will need to (R)ead text inG a compressed file. You may prevent new callers, non-subscribing users, etc. from using this feature.Û1 Maximum Lines to Read Per File1 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG Enter 0 for no limit, or a limit up 9999. This will limit the numberG of lines in EACH text file a caller can read. Some Sysops will preferG that callers not read entire text files on-line. Unscrupulous callersG might use the (R)ead function to screen cap text files and avoid fileG or byte download ratios which may be in effect. When setting this,G remember that some authors don't get around to describing what theirG software does until 10 or 20 pages (screens) into the documentation.- Between 400 and 500 is a good MINIMUM limit.G This limitation does not apply to non-text files being displayed in HEX mode (if enabled).G This parameter will be ignored if PCBFV is running in any of the localG modes, or if the Sysop is on remotely. This allows the Sysop to have& full access to the File View process.Û1 Default Wildcard (R)ead Answer1 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG This parameter allows you to set what the default answer will be when* the caller is requesting files to (R)ead.G To present the regular (R)ead input prompt without a default answer,; leave this field BLANK, or enter NONE. This will display:G File within PCBFV.ZIP to read,(L)ist,(wildcards are OK)? ( )G To present a default answer at the read input prompt, such as *.DOC3 enter *.DOC in this parameter. This will display:G File within PCBFV.ZIP to read,(L)ist,(wildcards are OK)? (*.DOC )G You MUST include a wildcard (* or ?) if enabling a default answer. AnyG caller input other than (Enter) will cause PCBFV to erase the defaultE and allow the caller to enter their own input (or enter L for List).Û1 Y/N/A Prompt for Wildcard Find1 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG PART of the Yes/No/Abort prompt which appears for each filename thatG matches a wildcard (R)ead request may be specified. Because so manyG different suggestions have been received as to what this prompt shouldG be, it was decided to allow each Sysop to configure it to their needs.G Note: the (Y) added to the end of the prompt will always appear, since Yes is the default answer.: (Next: PCBFV.DOC Size: 37793) (H)elp, Read this file? (Y)6 |_____________________|+ |8 What you place in this parameter will be inserted here.
Suggestions: (H)elp, Read this file?' (H)elp, Read this file (Yes,No,Abort)?$ (H)elp, Read this file (Enter)=Yes?Û0 Disable (S)elect File Option0 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG This allows the you to disable the "(S)elect another compressed file"G option. You may allow the caller to have the ability to select anotherG compressed file for viewing without exiting the F V shell. The S)electG command improves the caller interface to the File View process, as theG caller is not returned back and forth to PCBoard if they have several files to view. G PCBFV's (S)elect command is completely FSEC & conference DLPATH aware.G Callers will not be able to (S)elect other compressed files with PCBFVD unless they can also access them (for download) in PCBoard as well.G PCBFV which check the security of selected files, as well as passwordsG and if appropriate will ask the caller for the password. This whole? process is performed in exactly the same manner as in PCBoard.Û1 # Files in Each (F)lagged File1 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG This will allow you to specify the number of files which can be addedG to the file which contains each individually flagged file. This allows: some control over possible misuse of the (F)lag function.1 Enter a 0 (zero) to disable the (F)lag function.G If (F)lag is disabled, references to the (F) and (I) commands should9 be removed from the FVHLP help file and FVMNU (if used).Û2 Security Needed to (F)lag files2 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG Enter the minimum security level a caller will need to (F)lag files inG a compressed file. You may prevent new callers, non-subscribing users, etc. from using this feature.Û1 Loc\Name of New (F)lagged File1 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG If (F)lagging is allowed, enter the location AND name of the file thatG will be created and will contain the individual files the caller picksG for downloading. The location MUST be a drive & path which are listedG in your DLPATH.LST! The extension (.ZIP .LZH) you give the filenameG determines the compression method used by PCBFV to create the file. InG a MULTI-NODE environment, the file NAME in the above parameter MUST beG different for each of the nodes. You may accomplish this by eitherG placing a different name in each node's .CNF file, or if you are usingG a single PCBFV.CNF then place the @NODE@ macro in-line here, such as:F C:\UPLOAD\FLAG-@[email protected]. PCBFV will replace @NODE@ internally based" on node information from PCBoard. G IMPORTANT: The location specified here MUST be in DLPATH.LST, & should. NOT be located in a PCBoard 14.5a INDEX file.Û2 Disable (F)lagging Across Files2 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG Callers may (F)lag files from different compressed files without beingG required to download the Flagged file after each File View. If thisG feature is disabled, the caller will receive a message when PCBFV endsG which tells them "You must download FLAGGED.ZIP before viewing anotherG file". Otherwise, the caller will receive a message when PCBFV endsG which is "You may download FLAGGED.ZIP or add to it with another F V".G Disabling this parameter is generally NOT recommended. The caller mayG find it a nuisance to be forced to rename FLAGGED.ZIP on THEIR endG before downloading another one from YOUR end. By allowing (F)laggingG across files, all individually flagged files can be collected into ONE/ nice, neat package and downloaded all at once.G Enabling this setting does not affect the "# files in each (F)lagged) file" setting, which is always observed.Û2 Disable AutoFlag On PCB Return2 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄF When PCBFV terminates the F V session and returns control to PCBoard,F it will prompt PCBoard to place the caller created flagged file (ifF any) into PCBoard's own FLAG list. You may be disable this feature if
you wish.Û3 Non-Text File Type for HEX Mode3 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ@ You may determine how Non-text files may be viewed with (R)ead.G * (N)one, never display Non-Text files. Selecting this mode prevents* non-text files from ever being displayed.G * (E)xclude executable and compressed files. Any file with a filenameG extension of EXE, COM, ZIP, GIF, LZH, PAK, ARC, and ZOO will not beA shown to the caller. Any other Non-text files will be displayed.G * (A)ll, any non-text file will be displayed to the caller in HEX mode1 if PCBFV determines the file is not a text file.G The (E)xclude mode is probably the best. This allows callers to viewG things like dBase, Lotus, and other data files while preventing filesB such as executables (.EXE) and "zips in zips" from being viewed.Û2 Your PCBFV Registration Number2 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG This is the registration number received when PCBFV is registered. AllG functions are enabled in unregistered copies. The only limitation isG that while reading files, remote callers will not have access to theG (F)ind text command. (F)ind can be used by the Sysop remotely as well0 as in all local modes, for evaluation purposes.G Registration also removes the "PCBFV [Unregistered Copy]" message andG brief delay at program termination. This is not replaced with yourG system's name or anything else. This provides a true, seamless, "looks like PCBoard" process.Û( Main Prompt( ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄG You may change PCBFV's main command prompt. You may wish to insert the* command letters or command abbreviations:& (H)elp, File View Command? (default): (H)elp, L, R, S, F, FLAG, I, C, B, X, Z, P, View Command?D Valid PCBFV commands are (H)elp, (L)ist, (R)ead, (S)elect, (F)lag,H (I)nventory, (C)RC, (B)rief, (X)pert, (Z)ip-extra, (P)rogram, and FLAG.Û

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
