In this archive, you should find SAMPLE.CFG You may want to copy it over to
something a bit more classy, like MANIA.CFG

The .CFG file is a 11 line ASCII text file. (*13 Lines If You Use GTUSER.BBS)

Line 1: Complete Path To Dropfile, Including Dropfile Name
Ex: C:\TRIBBS\TRIBBS.SYS

Line 2: The Name Of The BBS As It Will Appear On The Registration Form
Ex: SOME PLACE ELSE BBS

Line 3: Registering Sysop's First Name
Ex: Todd

Line 4: Registering Sysop's Last Name
Ex: Carlton

Line 5: BULLETIN PATH
(Dir To Write Out ANSI and ASCII High Score Files)

Line 6: ASCII BULLETIN
(Name Of ASCII File To Write...NO PATH NEEDED!)

Line 7: ANSI BULLETIN
(Name Of ANSI File To Write...NO PATH NEEDED!)

Line 8: TURNS PER DAY ;REGISTERED ONLY
(How Many Turns Per Day A Person May Take. Unregistered = 5)

Line 9: MINIMUM TURNS BEFORE MODULE CAN BE EXITED ;REGISTERED ONLY
(How Many Turns A Player Must Take In A Game Module Before
They May "Give Up" And Exit That Game. Unregistered = 3)

Line 10: PAUSE Control
(Character(s) Used To Make Your BBS Pause During a File Display)

Line 11: REGISTRATION CODE
(Key Number Used To Unlock Advanced DoorMania Features)

*BBSes That use GTUSER.BBS require 2 additional lines in their .CFG file.

*Line 5: COM Port
Ex: 2

*Line 6: Node Number
Ex: 1

(Then continue with "Bulletin Path", etc. from above...)

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
