HOTFILES 2.1 (c) 1989, GMUtant Software
What's new in 2.1?
- verbose listing program (HOTFILEV.EXE) added to the ZIP
- temporary files now DELETED when HOTFILES/HOTFILEV finishes!
(very sorry about that basic oversight!)
- final report changed around a bit.
How does it work?
HOTFILES reads your FILESPEC.DAT file (WILDCAT! 2.0x) and produces an
ASCII text file listing all files that have been downloaded more than
once. Here's a sample of the file created (HOTFILES.BBS):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOTFILES! (c) 1989, GMUtant Files with 7 or more downloads
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filename [Size] [dls] [Area] Filename [Size] [dls] [Area]
SYSID43.ZIP [53421] 17 A PKZ101.EXE [132096] 16 G
ASKIT.ZIP [237258] 15 E MIPS.COM [13312] 15 A
BSDS10D.ZIP [97833] 11 L MAKEWILL.ZIP [22028] 10 H
FATAL10.ZIP [8325] 10 A SORT-OUT.ZIP [60717] 9 F
CC310.ZIP [29529] 9 A PKZ101A.EXE [145408] 9 G
BBRAMTST.ZIP [35604] 8 A BSDS001.ZIP [15274] 7 L
ZIPTUT.ZIP [32768] 7 I BOOT13.ZIP [11621] 7 A
/* end of report */
As you can see the name, size, number of downloads and the WILDCAT! file
area are given for each file.
To run HOTFILES as an event (in a batch file), use the following syntax:
HOTFILES # where # is the mininum number of downloads you want
reported. HOTFILES 0 will report the download activity for every file in
your FILESPEC.DAT database.
HOTFILEV.EXE is a verbose version of HOTFILES, giving file desciptions
as well. Here's a sample of the HOTFILEV output:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOTFILES! (c) 1989, GMUtant Files with 9 or more downloads
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Name] [Size] [dls] [Area] [Two Line Description]
SYSID43.ZIP [53421] 17 A *Everything* (12 pages!) you wanted to
know about your system. TPAS 5.0 source.
PKZ101.EXE [132096] 16 G OFFICIAL RELEASE OF PKZIP.
Use this with *.ZIP files
FATAL10.ZIP [8325] 10 A Gives more information when you get an
"Abort, Ignore, Retry?" message.
SORT-OUT.ZIP [60717] 9 F A visual demonstration of various sort
algorithms. EGA/VGA required.
/* end of report */
Registration?
I decided to create a WILDCAT! utility that didn't cost anything and would
work without complicated command line arguments. Since I needed something
to create a popular files bulletin for my board (GMUtant OnLine BBS), I
knocked out HOTFILES! this afternoon. If you find it useful, great. My
only request is that you leave the 'HOTFILES! (c) 1989, GMUtant' line in
the output file HOTFILES creates.
