GRES - GIF Specs in Upload Description MOD for RBBS-PC 17.4

DISCLAIMER:
-----------

"RESTRICTIONS".

RESTRICTIONS:
-------------
You are free to use this MODS for your own use. You may not redistribute
them in modified form in anyway. You may not include them with major mods,
such as, but not including, the MAPLE MODS, DGS MODS, or CDOR MODS. In
other words, you MAY include them in the MAPLE MODS, DGS MODS and CDOR MODS,
but NO OTHERS. If you are responsible for any major mods and your mods
are not listed above, then you are not authorized to use the mods I wrote.
The philosophy of RBBS, "Users Helping Users" is important to me, but
unfortunatly, some sysops have decided to make it "Users Screwing Users",
and therefore, I will not allow certain individuals use these mods.
It should be quite OBVIOUS which mods are NOT included above. Finally,
the code may be used by the copyright owners of RBBS-PC and if these mods
are used in RBBS-PC, the copyright of these mods will then belong to the
copyright owners of RBBS-PC.

FILES:
------
GRES174 DOC This Documentation
GRES174 MRG The Merge file to be applied to RBBSSUB3.BAS
SHIFT OBJ Object file to link with at compile time
SHIFTL OBJ Object file to link with at compile time

DESCRIPTION:
------------
Modification for RBBS-PC v17.4 to read and include GIF specs
(widthxheightxcolors) to a GIF upload description. Limited to GIF87a
specs.

IMPLEMENTATION:
---------------
Use Ken Goosen's BLED utility to automatically MERGE the GRES174.MRG file
into a stock RBBS source file:
BLED /L /B RBBSSUB3.BAS GRES174.MRG RBBSSUB3.NEW

Delete the original RBBSSUB3.BAS and copy the RBBSSUB3.NEW files to
RBBSSUB3.BAS. Next, edit your link list for RBBS and add SHIFT and
SHIFTL to it like so:

shift+
shiftl+
RBBS-PC+
RBBSSUB1+
RBBSSUB2+
RBBSSUB3+
RBBSSUB4+
RBBSSUB5+
QBARCV6+
ANSI17+
XMODEM+

RBBSML+
BDRIVEC2+
PC-NET+
10-NET+
RBBSUTIL+
RBBSDV+
GIVEBK31+
RBBSHS+
BASNOV+
FOSSCOMM,
,
,
BCOM45.LIB /STACK:2048

The above is for QB4.5, but PDS7.1 is basically the same. Finally, recompile
RBBS-PC.EXE.

USEAGE:
-------
Useage is automatic. Any time a *.GIF file is uploaded, it will be checked
for width, height, and colors, and if it is a GIF87a spec. GIF, then the
specs will automatically be added to the upload description. When an Uploader
is specifying a GIF upload, the mod will SHORTEN the amount of characters
allowed in the description by 15 characters to allow for the specs in the
description.

PLUGS:
------
If you want to run an excellent BBS, try one of these Major Mods:

Maple - RBBS-MPL.ZIP The Maple Mods - after running these, you will never
216K want to go back to stock RBBS again, they feature
many mods and cosmetic fixes. QB4.5 or PDS7.1 required.
Cellar
Door - RBBS-CDR.ZIP The Cellar Door Mods - (my mods). These mods feature
380K all the Maple mods, since I work with the Maple Mods,
and more. With Scott McNay's Far string mods, you
MUST have Microsoft BASIC PDS 7.1 to compile. Lots
and lots of mods and fixes - the way RBBS oughta be.
Includes all the original RBBS, except Library Support
and MultiLink. "Better'n WildCat" - Annonymous Wildcat
Sysop.

Either of the above two mods will certainly help your BBS, your users,
and you, by using well intergrated and tested mods.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
