It is very important that you run this little program when you install Gamma-1.
The alias support uses some of the previously undefined space in the user
file, and I discovered while I was playing with it that this undefined space
had undefined contents. If you attempt to use Gamma-1 without first running
this program you are bound to have problems, probably runtime error 100.
This applies whether you use the alias support or not!

All you need to do is copy this program to your QuickBBS directory and run it,
it should take only a few seconds and then you will no longer have any need
for it as long as you never run an earlier version of Quick, or any of the
clones. If you for any reason run RA, SBBS, or an earlier version of Quick
than 2.75 Gamma-1 after running ALIASFIX then you will have to run it again.
No big deal, just something to remember in case the occasion should arise.
It's easier to predict these problems and solve them before they happen! 😉

One final note on ALIASFIX is that it does write to your USERS.BBS, so it
might be a wise idea to back it up first. I have confidence in my code, but
a power glitch or other unforseen event could cause a problem - better safe
than sorry!

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
