@X1E³ @X1FWelcome to Qmail DeLuxe@X1Bý @X1E³@X07
@X1EÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ@X07
This is the DeLuxeý opening menu. This menu lets you configure your
reader, call other Qmail systems, drop to DOS, or you can select a
Qmail packet to read with DeLuxeý.
Using Help is very easy. Pressing [@X0AALT-H@X07] at any time gives you help
designed for your current location inside DeLuxeý.
If there's more than one screen, you can continue reading by pressing
[@X0ASPACE BAR@X07] or [@X0aY@X07]. [@X0AESC@X07] or [@X0AN@X07] exits Help, and [@X0AP@X07] prints the help
information on your printer. Make sure your printer is turned @X0FON@X07 and
is @X0FON LINE@X07.
If you wish you can change or delete Help screens. Details are located
inside @X0E<1>DELUXE2.DOC@X07.
If you continue now, you will get help for the opening menu.

@X0BDeleting mail packets from this menu@X07:
You can delete mail packets from inside this menu. First move
the "menu bar" down to the packet you wish to delete and then
press the [@X0ADEL@X07] key on your keypad. You must answer both questions
with "@X0FYES@X07" before the mail packet is deleted.
@X0BQ-Tip for laptop users@X07:
Most laptop portables are designed so Qmail DeLuxeý thinks it is
running on a @X0FCOLOR@X07 monitor even though you may have an @X0BLCD@X07 display.
If you wish to make your screens look "correct" on your laptop then
start @X0EDELUXE2.EXE@X07 using the following command:
@X0EDELUXE2 /BW@X07
This forces DeLuxeý to use monochrome colors. If you do not tell
DeLuxeý which color set to use it will check your computer and
determine for itself which mode to use.
Laptop users can also use the [@X0A=@X07] key to move messages forward (as
well as the [@X0AENTER@X07] key). Using [@X0A=@X07] means you do not have to press
the [@X0ASHIFT@X07] key to get a [@X0A+@X07] from your keyboard.
@X0F(more)@X07
PAUSE
In a similiar manner, pressing [@X0ASHIFT@X07+@X0AENTER@X07] while viewing messages
will act like pressing [@X0APgDn@X07]. The [@X0ASHIFT@X07+@X0AENTER@X07] combination is
easier to reach on many laptops.

@X1EÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ@X07
Sometimes you may find yourself needing to enter messages when you do
not have a mail packet available. If so, you need to select the option
"@X0BEnter messages without a mail packet@X07" from the DeLuxeý opening menu.
DeLuxeý needs to know the name of the mail packet. This is always the
name of the @X0E.QWK@X07 files you download from The Qmail Door. Some examples
would be "@X0FSPARKY@X07", "@X0FPARTY@X07", "@X0FCHEERS@X07", etc. Do NOT enter the @X0E.QWK@X07
extension here.
If you wish to return to the opening menu just press the [@X0AESC@X07] or
[@X0AENTER@X07] keys (without entering a packet name).

If you set "@X0BSort conferences by name@X07" to "@X0FYES@X07" from inside DeLuxeý's

finally all the conferences without messages in alphabetical order.
If the sort conferences flag is "@X0FNO@X07" then you will see the Replies,

@X1EÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ@X07
This file is used by Qmail DeLuxeý when you reply to a message. DeLuxeý
will copy the message you are replying to this filename. It will mark
the text with the author's initials and a "quote" character ("@X0B>@X07").
If you are using an editor that will allow you to edit two files at one
time (like @X0BQEdit@X07 from SemWare) then you can "cut and paste" message text
from the original message into your reply. This helps others follow the
original thoughts from the author.
If you are using an editor that does not let you edit two files at one
time (like @X0ETED.EXE@X07) then you should use the same filename for both your
@X0BORIGINAL@X07 and @X0BREPLY@X07 filenames. You will see this often referred to as
"@X0FORIGINAL=REPLY@X07" in messages from users. Please note this does not mean
that you should enter "@X0EORIGINAL=REPLY@X07" as a filename...only that both
filenames should match.
If @X0FORIGINAL=REPLY@X07 then the original message is copied into your editor
where you can delete the text you do not wish in your reply.

Qmail DeLuxeý does not rely on internal editors when you reply or enter
a new message. Everyone has their favorite editor and forcing you to
use one type restricts your enjoyment of The Qmail System.
DeLuxeý comes pre-configured for the favorite editors in use today. If
you find one you would like to use then you can erase the others in this
screen. Just move the cursor bar to the editor name (or editor command)
you wish to delete and press the [@X0ASPACE BAR@X07] and [@X0AENTER@X07]. DeLuxeý will
move the other editor entries up for you automatically.
The editor name is used by the reader if you have more than one editor
configured. Some users like to choose between a very small and fast
editor like @X0ETED.EXE@X07 and use a word processor like @X0BWordPerfect@X07 for more
demanding messages. If you have two or more editors defined then
DeLuxeý will ask you which editor you wish to use before you enter a

you to change your @X0EORIGINAL@X07 and @X0EREPLY@X07 filespecs without having to change
your editor commands.
DeLuxeý expects to find the editors in the current subdirectory or

editor command itself). Remember that you can use any DeLuxeý DOS
"@X0Bprefix@X07" commands.

Qmail DeLuxeý requires that you use a "@X0Bcompression@X07" or "@X0Barchiver@X07" system
to uncompress your mail packet and compress your replies. These systems
squeeze the files down to a very small size so they transmit much
quicker than uncompressed files. This saves you both time and money.
DeLuxeý provides support for three different archivers...two are from
PkWare, Inc. These systems are @X0FPKZIP@X07 and @X0FPKPAK@X07 and are available for
downloading on many BBS systems. Remember you @X0Bmust@X07 register these systems
if you decide to use them.
The third archiving system supported is Sparkware's own @X0FQmDWC@X07 system.
This system is available from us for @X0A$5.00@X07 (@X0BUS funds please@X07). All Qmail
Door 4.00 systems use QmDWC in addition to the other archivers. If you
would like to purchase a copy of QmDWC please mail a check to...

@X1E³ SuperShell is turned ON ³@X07
@X1EÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ@X07
SuperShell allows you to use your favorite word processor when you enter
a new message or reply inside Qmail DeLuxeý.
Normally, programs that SHELL to DOS to execute another program always
leave the current program "in memory" occupying space. This cuts down
on the size of the program that can be executed in this SHELL. If
SuperShell has been turned @X0FON@X07 then all of your computer's memory (except
for 5,000 bytes) is freed up so other programs can execute. When you
type @X0AEXIT@X07 to return to Qmail DeLuxeý this "@X0Bfreed memory@X07" is automatically
returned to you.
SuperShell achieves this feat by either swapping DeLuxeý into @X0BEMS@X07 memory
(if it is available) or writing itself to a file named @X0EDELUXE2.RAM@X07. A
second file named @X0EDELUXE2.$$$@X07 is also created by SuperShell. Never delete
@X0EDELUXE2.RAM@X07 or @X0EDELUXE2.$$$@X07 while you are at DOS or you cannot return back
to the reader.
Please note that SuperShell does slow down a DOS SHELL command slightly.
@X0F(more)@X07
PAUSE
If you are using Qmail DeLuxeý on a floppy disk system you should never
turn SuperShell @X0FON@X07 (unless you have EMS memory available). Since
SuperShell writes files to disk you may run out of room on your diskette
and the time it takes to create the files would drastically slow down
the performance of the reader.
SuperShell does not require any @X0CTSR@X07 software to be "preloaded" before
you start the reader.
@X0BQ-Tip@X07:
SuperShell has been found to work with every system we have tested
but in case you have a system that refuses to work with it, or you
wish to simply over-ride SuperShell in one session, you can use the
following command line switches when you execute @X0EDELUXE2.EXE@X07:
@X0A/SS@X07 Turns ON SuperShell regardless of this flag
@X0A/NS@X07 Turns OFF SuperShell regardless of this flag
For example, "@X0ADELUXE2 /NS@X07" would disable SuperShell if it had been
turned @X0FON@X07 by this flag.

@X1E³ @X1FCarbon copy your replies @X1E³@X07
@X1EÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ@X07
If this flag has been turned @X0FON@X07 then Qmail DeLuxeý will ask you if you
wish to copy messages you enter to other users.
You should only carbon copy @X0BPERSONAL@X07 messages or @X0BPUBLIC@X07 messages you
wish to save in other conference areas. It is considered bad manners to
carbon copy a public message to other users in the same conference.
@X0BQ-Tip@X07:
You can automatically "carbon copy" messages to other users if you
insert the command "@X0BCC=[user name]@X07" in the first column of your
reply. When you save your message DeLuxeý will immediately save the
message to [user name] without asking you (do not include the @X0A[]@X07).
You may use up to twenty "CC=[user name]" in one message. You can
even save a list of commonly used names to include in your messages
(if your editor supports this feature).

The file @X0EDLXTEXT@X07 contains all of the text prompts used by Qmail DeLuxeý.
If you are looking for the best performance possible from the reader you
should load @X0EDLXTEXT@X07 into memory for fast access.
If you are concerned about memory usage and want to keep DeLuxeý's RAM
requirements as low as possible then turn this flag @X0FOFF@X07.
However, if you are using DeLuxeý on a floppy disk system you should
turn this flag @X0FON@X07 for best performance.
@X0BQ-Tip@X07:
If you are looking to save even more on RAM requirements and you are
using DeLuxeý on an @X0FEGA@X07 or @X0FVGA@X07 system do not use the extended screen
support feature. Enabling 43 or 50 line support increases the size
of DeLuxeý's internal buffers. Keep your displays at 25 lines per
screen.

@X1E³ @X1FDisplay screen numbers @X1E³@X07

This flag has been set aside for users who would like to use DeLuxeý
with their mice. If this flag is turned @X0FON@X07 then the reader will display
a small @X0B[xx]@X07 prompt in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
This prompt displays different numbers depending on what screen is
currently being displayed by the reader.
The prompt always assumes the current colors on the screen at that
location so it will not "stand out" from the rest of the display.
This number is quite handy for "mice menus" - software written to take
advantage of mice. A mouse menu for Logitech mice has been included on
your DeLuxeý distribution diskette named @X0EMOUSE.MNU@X07. Please see
the manual under "Advanced Features" for more information on how to use
this mouse menu.

keystrokes into DeLuxeý or even "pop-up" other menus.
@X0BUsing function keys to call up other programs@X07
If you enter a DOS command in a function key then DeLuxeý will
immediately execute it whenever you press the associated function key.
If you assigned "DIR" to a function key then whenever this key is
pressed you will see a directory of your files and immediately return to
DeLuxeý.
There are, however, many additional "parameters" you can insert in your
function key definition that control DeLuxeý. These are broken down
into four different types:
@X0F(more)@X07
PAUSE
@X0BCommand modifiers@X07
These statements are @X0FALWAYS@X07 included before your DOS command. They
tell DeLuxeý to handle this particular DOS call in a special way.
An example would be "@X0ESS:ND:LIST@X07". The DOS command is "@X0ELIST@X07" but the
"@X03SS:ND:@X07" are modifiers.
@X03SS:@X07
@X0FS@X07uper@X0FS@X07hell. This modifier will always turn SuperShell on regardless
if you have it turned ON or OFF. Remember that SuperShell does not work
from inside the configuration area.
@X03NS:@X07
@X0FN@X07o @X0FS@X07uperShell. This modifier will always turn SuperShell off regardless
if you have it turned ON or OFF.
@X03NB:@X07
@X0FN@X07o @X0FB@X07linking. This modifier will keep DeLuxeý's ability to display
high intensity colors (at the expense of displaying blinking colors).
Normally the reader turns this capability OFF when you drop to DOS
and turns it back on when you return.
@X0F(more)@X07
PAUSE
@X03LF:@X07
@X0FL@X07oad @X0FF@X07ont. This modifier tells DeLuxeý to reload the currently
selected font (if you are using fonts with @X0BEGA@X07 or @X0BVGA@X07 displays). If
you are using a batch file you can insert @X0ELOADFONT.EXE@X07 as your last
statement in the batch file and this will also force the reader to
reload the font.
Some programs will "disable" the fonts loaded inside the reader when
you execute them. This is beyond DeLuxeý's control so this command
lets you easily reload them.
@X03ND:@X07
@X0FN@X07o @X0FD@X07isplay. DeLuxeý will normally clear the screen and show you the
DOS command in a dialog box. This modifier leaves the current screen
"intact" and will restore it when you return from DOS.
@X03NR:@X07
@X0FN@X07o @X0FR@X07edisplay. This modifier works just like @X03ND:@X07 except that the
current screen is NOT restored when you return from DOS.

@X0BKeyboard macros@X07
DeLuxeý supports two types of macros.
@X03M=[@X0Amacro string@X07]
This type of macro lets you "preload" the reader's internal keyboard
buffer with commands. You could assign "@X03M=@X0AJ N R@X07" and if you pressed
the key from the main display (but only at the main display) you would
@X0AJ@X07oin the @X0AN@X07ext conference that contains messages and @X0AR@X07ead them.
The [@X0Amacro string@X07] can be up to 48 characters long.
@X03S=[@X0Amacro string@X07]
Unlike "@X03M=@X07", this type of macro lets you insert [@X0Amacro string@X07]
directly into your DOS keyboard buffer. This lets you pass keystrokes
on to other programs that might be called by DeLuxeý.
You could assign a function key to "@X03S=@X0AYY@X07" and after you entered a
message reply you can press the key and your message is automatically
saved to disk.
[@X0Amacro string@X07] is limited to only 15 characters. You can use the "@X0A{@X07"
symbol to indicate where [@X0AENTER@X07] strokes should be used.
@X0F(more)@X07
PAUSE
@X0BDeLuxeý functions@X07
The reader also lets you assign six different operations to the
function keys. These operations should not be entered with any other
command modifiers or parameters.
@X03CONFIG@X07
This operation will call up the configuration area at any time from

Known as the "Burma shave" of The Qmail System, taglines let you insert
cute little "one liners" at the bottom of your messages. DeLuxeý will
let you manage up to nineteen taglines "internally" but provide three
methods for adding even more taglines:
@X0BUsing @X0E.SIG@X0B files@X07
You can create text files that contain up to nineteen additional
taglines if you name these files with a @X0E.SIG@X07 extension and keep them
inside the @X0E<1>@X07 subdirectory.
DeLuxeý will load these taglines if you assign the filename to a
tagline entry in this menu. When you select this entry from the
tagline menu (displayed when you save a message) the reader will load
the new taglines instead.
You can always return to the original "internal" taglines at any time
by creating a tagline named "@X0FRELOAD@X07" and selecting it from the menu.

Qmail DeLuxe is the original home of "@X0FJH@X07" and it is fully supported
inside the DeLuxeý reader. If you wish to use JH then you need to
make one of your taglines "@X0EDOS:JH@X07". The "@X0EDOS:@X07" tells the reader that
this tagline is actually a DOS command and it should be passed to DOS.
Remember that you can all of the DOS parameters available to function

filename on our system is "@X0EJH2.ZIP@X07".
@X0B?@X07
If you use a question mark for one of your taglines then you can enter
a tagline "on the fly" after you save a message. Please note that

This entry contains the filename that DeLuxeý creates when you display
a message. The format for this file is detailed inside the manual

message is displayed by the reader. You can leave this entry blank if
the application program does not need it (Robbin Hancock does not use
this entry).
@X0B<#85>@X07
If this entry is set to @X0FYES@X07 then DeLuxeý will display the message text

If you wish to use a signature you may enter your name here. You can

You can also use a file for your signature if you wish. Create a text

Thank you for taking your time to try our new Qmail DeLuxeý offline mail
system. Sparkware originally developed the offline mail reading concept
for PCBoard systems in 1987 and we have continued to develop the system
to meet your needs.
We feel that Qmail DeLuxeý represents the best and quickest way to read
your electronic mail. This reader is compatible with all Qmail Door
systems from Sparkware as well as Qmail Door clone systems. Please
check with your system operator if you are unsure if this reader will
work with the mail system available for use on your bulletin board
