Since bulletin boards have increasingly progressed in the size of files they
carry, it has become necessary to find an easier way to identify files
more precisely. The concept of the FILE_ID.DIZ was established to bring
about a type of standardization for file descriptions. (There are other file
names, such as .SDI files, that are also used for file descriptions.) You
may search for any text filename you would like. You are not restricted to
only searching for FILE_ID.DIZ files! This version will allow the user to
search for upto five different text files and extract the information from
the first one that it finds.
Although UBBS v2.09 does not allow for the extraction of the FILE_ID.DIZ
file. You can run this utility at a pre-determined event time.
REQUIREMENTS: Ultra BBS V2.09
PKUNZIP.EXE [in your path]
Files in your filebase
DIZ4UBBS uses a config file to hold the information needed to run this
utility. The DIZ4UBBS.CFG file contains the information listed below.
The lines are typical lines found in the DIZ4UBBS.CFG file and can be
modified to suit you system.
Typical DIZ4UBBS.CFG file:
1. Complete path and filename of the FILEBASE.DAT file.
This is the file that UBBS houses all the information
on the systems files.
2. The text file you wish to search for. It doesn't have
to be FILE_ID.DIZ, but that appears to be the going
standard these days.
The utility will read in each name and display the text
from the first one it finds! Each name must be seperated
by a comma. Max filenames to search are five.
3. The date you wish to start searching from. EX: If you
enter in 01/01/93 for this field, every file that was
uploaded on and after that date would be checked for
the text files entered in field 3.
4. Yes or No field.
Yes - User must hit enter to continue after finding a
text description, this allows the sysop to observe
more clearly what is being extracted.
No - Runs until it is finished...
5. The date (if any) that you wish to exclude from the
search. Many sysops have files that are set at a date
of 12/31/99, this allows the sysop to display the file
everytime there is a listing. If you do not use this
option, you must put 00/00/00 in its place.
