NOTE: VERSION 1.2 CONTAINS A CHANGE THAT REQUIRES YOU RE-WRITE YOUR
CONFIGURATION FILE PLEASE SEE THE CONFIGURATION INFO
BELOW....VERSION 1.2 WILL NOT RUN PROPERLY WITH 1.0 OR 1.0a's
CONFIGURATION FILE!!!!!!!

OVERVIEW
ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ

PEGASUS SOFTWARE'S * AUTODIZ * is a utility that will add a
FILE_ID.DIZ description file to any ZIP. It searches first for
an existing FILE_ID.DIZ and, if found, skips the processing of
that file; if not found, it will search any ascii text file in
PCBOARD description format, and create a FILE_ID.DIZ with the
description of that file, then add it to the ZIP, all
automatically, making it unnecessary for you to manually type
the description when you upload the file to a BBS that supports
FILE_ID.DIZ descriptions .
You can obtain your description by download the LIST OF
AVAILABLE FILES contained in most BBS's upload directory, or,
you can simply set your comm program to capture your BBS session
to a file and * AUTODIZ * will seek out the file descriptions from
that capture file! What could be easier?

SETUP
ÍÍÍÍÍ
Setup is fairly simple and straightforward. Simply unzip the
archive into the directory where you want * AUTODIZ * to operate
from...I put it in my path so it is always available.
Although not necessary, you *can* create a configuration file
for * AUTODIZ * that will enable it to run without prompting you
for file locations, the content of the CFG file is discussed
below. If you choose not to make a CFG file, * AUTODIZ * will
prompt you each time it is run for location of the files to
process and location of the descriptions text file.

CONFIGURATION FILE

Using any text editor, create a file called AUTODIZ.CFG anything else you want to call it>, and enter these lines:
(NOTE: This file may contain only the first two entires, unless
you have additional directories to process. In that case you can
add up to 10 directores after the CAP file location. BUT YOU
MUST NEVER....NEVER EXCEED 11 TOTAL LINES IN THIS FILE!!!!!!

C:\TELIX\TELIX.CAP <=========TEXT FILE CONTAINING FILE
DESCRIPTIONS. This can be
any text file that has
descriptions in PCBOARD
directory format

C:\UPLOAD <======== DIRECTORY CONTAINING UPLOADS
TO BE PROCESSED

C:\TEST <======== DIRECTORY CONTAINING UPLOADS
TO BE PROCESSED

C:\TEMP <======== DIRECTORY CONTAINING UPLOADS
TO BE PROCESSED

C:\DOWNLOAD <======== DIRECTORY CONTAINING UPLOADS
TO BE PROCESSED

C:\FILES <======== DIRECTORY CONTAINING UPLOADS
TO BE PROCESSED
YOU CAN ADD UP TO 10 (ONLY)
DIRECTORIES TO BE PROCESSED

The benefits of using a configuration file include the fact that
with it * AUTODIZ * becomes a completely automated program. I
run it from a batch file every time I exit my COMM program,
using the above configuration. I use TELIX and my bat file looks
like this:

CD \TELIX
TELIX
AUTODIZ AUTODIZ.CFG
CD \MAIN
MENU
people are using that may not
The session would go like this:

As soon as I am in TELIX, I type ALT-L to start my capture
log. The default setting for the CAP file is TELIX.CAP so
I use that. I then call the BBS I am going to download from,
and display the directories I will be choosing files from.
captured into my cap file>. I flag the files I wish to
download, and download them. I then exit the BBS, and call
another, if I wish and repeat the same operation...NEVER
closing the cap file...Telix will do that automatically when
I quit. The rest is handled by * AUTODIZ * and when I am
done, I have an upload directory with a bunch of files that
ALL contain FILE_ID.DIZ files, so when I upload them to
my board, or any other I
simply type SEE DIZ when prompted for a description, or, if
I upload in the batch mode I don't have to write a
thing...PCBOARD will seek out the FILE_ID.DIZ and place it
in the description area for you!

NEAT, HUH?

> IF A DESCRIPTION CANNOT BE FOUND IN THE FILE OR IN YOUR
> DESCRIPTION TXT FILE, THE NAME(S) OF THE UNDESCRIBED FILE WILL
> BE WRITTEN TO A FILE CALLED "NOTFOUND.TXT" FOR YOU TO
> REVIEW.

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!
IMPORTANT!!!!!!! YOU MUST HAVE PKZIP.EXE *AND* PKUNZIP.EXE IN YOUR
IMPORTANT!!!!!!! PATH OR IN THE DIRECTORY WHERE * AUTODIZ * IS RUNNING
IMPORTANT!!!!!!! OR IT WILL NOT OPERATE!!!!!!!

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
