NOVICE BAT-HINT # 1

BAT HINTS FOR THE NEW COMPUTER USER

Experience has taught me that even those new users who have had a computer
at home for several weeks (and even months) are generally unaware of the
power inherent in there machines. Much of this ignorance stems from the
common fear of reading manuals and/or the overbearing advice of a friend
who happily sets up the new computer without taking the time to fully
explain the apparent magic behind the files placed on the start-up disk.
All too often these files are deficient and the new user computes merrily
away unaware that his or her system is running awkwardly and inefficiently.
But worst of all, the new user gains little if any understanding of those
things that make a computer humm.

So enough chatter. The BATPOWER CONFERENCE is now branching out to help
all of those new users out there who really need a first helping hand...
without a lot of high-tech terminology. A new class of BATHINTS has been
created called NOVBH_#.DOCs (NOVICE BATHINT DOCUMENTS) that will endeavour
to explain the essential care and feeding of the new computer. Some of the
NOVBH_#.DOC files will be tailored for those running floppy-disk-only
systems, while others will be more suitable for those with hard disks and
still others will be applicable to either type of new user. The only
drawback of the whole idea is that these files are available only to
those users that already have a working computer and modem... but they
should still be of benefit to newcomers. If you know of anyone out there
without a modem who needs help... please consider downloading the novice
BATHINTS for them and make a printed copy available to them so that they
might also benefit... (then convince them that they MUST get a modem!).

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
