OPERATION:
This program reads the information stored at the nth byte
of a file, and compares this to user defined string:value pairs.
Strings can be up to 25 characters long, but may not include
spaces. Corresponding values may range from 0-255. Up to 25
pairs can be defined in the command line. The program returns the
byte value assigned to each string in the DOS errorlevel variable.
The /ELSE= parameter allows the user to specify the errorlevel to
be returned if none of the specified strings are matched. The /CAPS
parameter specifies a case insensitive string compare. All
parameters for this program are optional. If no byte offset is
specified, the program begins the compare with the first byte in
the file. If no filename is specified, the program reads
keystrokes from the keyboard. If no string:value pairs are
specified, the program returns the byte value of the encountered
character. If the /ELSE= parameter is not specified, the default
return code is zero.
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
