TITLE: Security/Fdisk/Installation
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI-M-1108
DATE: 30July92
PRODUCT: DR DOS
PRODUCT VERSION: 6.0
SUPERSEDES:

SYMPTOM: Unable to install on primary partition because
primary partition is too small.

ISSUE/PROBLEM
If the primary partition is less than 2.5 MB DR DOS will not
install. If Security is enabled during installation, Fdisk can not
correct this situation because of the secure disk and installation
will not complete, but security will be installed.

SOLUTION
Boot from the initial installation floppies. Press F10 to abort
and exit to DOS. From the A: Prompt, Make drive C: bootable by:
SYS C:\. Copy the following files to drive C:

LOGIN.EXE
CONFIG.SYS
AUTOEXEC.BAT
SSTORDRV.SYS
DEVSWAP.COM
INSTALL.EXE
FDISK.COM

Rename C:\INSTALL.EXE to C:\SETUP.EXE. Remove the floppy from
drive A: and reboot the computer. Enter the Master password.

At the C: prompt, type SETUP. Selecte only the SECURITY option.
Enable SECURITY and enter a different password for the MASTER
PASSWORD and the USER PASSWORD. Complete the installation and exit
to DOS. Run SETUP again. This time, disable SECURITY, complete
the installation and exit to DOS. Now type FDISK and remove all
partitions on the hard drive. Create a primary partition of at
least 3MB in size (recommend 10MB). Reboot off intial installation
floppies and complete install.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
